Vaslav (Vas) Patterson is a line Pilot/Captain/Line Check Pilot for United Airline flying the Boeing 737 aircraft out Las Vegas. He currently works as a pilot volunteer for the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) as a member of the Aircraft Design and Operations Group, which is a part of the Air Safety Organization (ASO). Vaslav currently serves as UAS Director on all matters dealing with Drones/ Remotely piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS)/ Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS). In the past 7 years, he has been doing safety work representing the largest non-governmental safety body in the world, which represents over 78000 professional pilots and growing.

Vaslav has represented ALPA on numerous committees. He represented ALPA on the FAA Beyond Visual-Line of Sight (BVLOS) Aviation Rule Making Committees (ARC). He has also represented ALPA on the Advance Aviation Advisory Committee (AAAC), as well as the Drone Safety Team. Vaslav goal as an ALPA representative is to help “foster the safe integration of UAS into the National Airspace System (NAS)”.

Vaslav holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Professional Aeronautics with a Minor in Aviation Business Administration, as well as a Masters Degree in Unmanned Systems with a Specialization in Safety and Emergency Response from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He is also planning on continuing his studies at law school in the near future.
