Mr. Muth joined the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA’s) Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (LE/FAMS) in May 2002, originally flying missions in support of the LE/FAMS’ charter to protect the traveling public and the aviation industry. After flying missions for a year, Mr. Muth accepted an 18-month assignment as the LE/FAMS representative to the Pittsburgh Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) and, in that role, conducted classified criminal and intelligence investigations into terrorism suspects and organizations. In November 2004, Mr. Muth was promoted to the Systems Operation Control Section’s (SOCS’s) Missions Operation Center (MOC) as a Supervisory Federal Air Marshal (SFAM). There, he managed day-to-day functions at the MOC in its capacity as the central source for coordination and support of the OLE/FAMS’ operational force. In May 2005, Mr. Muth was named the Assistant Supervisory Federal Air Marshal in Charge (ASAC) of the SOCS’s Reservations Branch, where he managed the coordination and booking of airline and hotel reservations for FAM domestic and international missions.

After a subsequent stint as ASAC of the SOCS International Planning Branch in early 2007, he was promoted in April 2007 to Supervisory Air Marshal in Charge (SAC) of the Technology Application Division. In August 2009, Mr. Muth accepted a position as the ASAC of the LE/FAMS Detroit Field Office, where he was second in command of a 180+ person office. In August 2011, Mr. Muth was assigned as the ASAC of the Law Enforcement Information Coordination Section (LEICS) at the Freedom Center in Herndon, VA and, in February 2014, assumed the position as SAC of Region One, Office of Field Operations. In June 2015, he became Deputy Supervisory Air Marshal in Charge (DSAC) of the Transportation Security Operations Center (TSOC). After subsequently spending two years as the DSAC for the Washington Field Office, he returned to LEICS in October 2020 to serve as SAC. Mr. Muth spent time as the Acting Executive Director for LE/FAMS Flight Programs before being officially appointed Regional Director of LE/FAMS Field Operations, Region 2, in June 2023. In that capacity, he oversees 10 LE/FAMS field offices, in addition to a number of programs, including the Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) program. In June 2024, he was named Acting Assistant Administrator for LE/FAMS Flight Operations.

Mr. Muth is a graduate of TSA’s Senior Leadership Development Program (2009) and the Department of Homeland Security’s Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program (2017), inclusive of a 120-day detail as an Acting Deputy Federal Security Director at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from West Virginia University, where he attended on a full tuition, academic scholarship and graduated in 1995 with Cum Laude, Honors Scholar, and Presidential Scholar awards. In addition, Mr. Muth obtained an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science/Criminology in 1999 from Marshall University in Huntington, WV.
