Chris Heck is currently the Manager for Engineering & Investigations in the Engineering & Air Safety Department at the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA). Chris has nearly 17 years of experience in aircraft accident investigation.
Chris manages a team of professionals who provide technical expertise in ALPA’s accident investigation activities. He oversees policy areas related to the design, certification, operation, and maintenance involving ALPA’s member aircraft. His team assists the Aircraft Design and Operations group (ADO), which is part of ALPA’s Air Safety Organization (ASO).
Over the years, Chris has participated in numerous NTSB investigations, most recently in the investigation into the 2025 midair collision between PSA flight 5342 and an Army UH-60 helicopter at Washington National Airport, and the 2024 Alaska Airlines flight 1282 Boeing 737 MAX door-plug investigation.
Chris and his team provide support for ALPA accident/incident investigation training courses and have worked on the course curriculum and scenario development. Four weeks each year, Chris instructs at ALPA’s accident investigation courses. Over his career, he and his team have trained hundreds of professional pilot volunteers, preparing them to participate in NTSB-led investigations.
