John Hanson is ALPA Senior Labor Relations Counsel and Dispute Resolution Coordinator – a staff attorney in the Representation Department - assigned to the United Master Executive Council Office in Chicago, IL. John has worked for ALPA for 23 years – all with the United pilots. He provides representation and legal assistance to individual pilots and supports the work of MEC Officers, MEC Committees, and LEC officials. John trains and assists local ALPA Reps in representing pilots in disciplinary proceedings. He also assists pilots with safety investigations – NTSB, FAA and employer, FAA enforcement actions, TSA civil enforcement actions, aviation impacts of off-duty legal problems, and training difficulties. John regularly represents ALPA in arbitration hearings before the United Pilots System Board of Adjustment.

John is primary staff counsel to the United MEC Central Air Safety Committee and its Subcommittees as well as all MEC Pilot Assistance Committees. He provided legal support and assistance to United MEC efforts to develop the SOAR Peer Support Program from its inception. He also works closely with the Grievance, Training, and Security Committees, among others.

John is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to working for ALPA he worked for a labor union in Washington DC representing federal employees and two law firms representing unions and employees.
