Matthew McCann serves as the Program Manager for the Surface Team within the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Program Management Organization. With over 20 years of experience as an electrical engineer specializing in surface surveillance, he leads the modernization and sustainment of critical aviation safety systems. His portfolio includes Airport Surface Detection Equipment – Model X (ASDE-X), Airport Surface Surveillance Capability (ASSC), Surface Awareness Initiative (SAI), Runway Status Lights (RWSL), and Runway Incursion Device (RID) - technologies essential for preventing collisions and enhancing situational awareness for both air traffic controllers and pilots. A passionate and dedicated aviator, Matt is also an active CFII and regularly flies his Mooney.
