David Lazzara is the Lead Overture Engineer and Staff Scientist in Applied Aerodynamics at Boom Supersonic, where he focuses on advancing design methodologies for next-generation supersonic aircraft. He specializes in high-fidelity aerodynamic analysis, shape optimization, and multidisciplinary design, helping translate cutting-edge research into practical aircraft configurations.

Prior to joining Boom, David spent over a decade at Boeing Research & Technology, where he served as an Associate Technical Fellow. His work centered on aerodynamic optimization, unconventional aircraft configurations, and multidisciplinary design, analysis, and optimization frameworks. He contributed to research spanning transonic and supersonic concepts, including truss-braced wings, blended wing bodies, and low-boom supersonic designs.

In parallel with his industry career, David has been deeply involved in aerospace education and outreach. He has taught aircraft design and engineering optimization at the University of Southern California as Adjunct Associate Professor of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Practice, where he developed and modernized course content while mentoring undergraduate and graduate students pursuing careers in aerospace. An Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, David founded the Supersonic Integration and Outreach Committee to expand the community and reach of scientists and engineers pursuing technology advancement for civil supersonic aircraft.

David holds a PhD, MS, and BS in Aerospace Engineering, with graduate studies completed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
