Description

Training options for airline pilots will continue to evolve with the integration of advancements in simulators, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and possibly, select artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in the future. With the addition of any new technologies and capabilities alongside traditional training methods, we must balance the effectiveness of and safety implications for airline pilot training. Full-motion simulators remain the industry standard, providing high-fidelity flight deck replicas with motion, visuals, sounds, and force feedback. VR and AR are also revolutionizing pilot training by creating immersive environments where pilots can practice procedures and emergency scenarios in a more engaging and interactive way.  AI may hold useful training possibilities.  The panel “Balancing Innovation and Traditional Training: Training the Current and Next Generation of Airline Pilots” will bring together ALPA pilots alongside subject matter experts to discuss pilot training in a modern – technology-focused world. To ensure safety and the maintenance of manual flight pilot skills, a balanced, risk-assessed approach that integrates traditional full-motion simulators with new digital tools will be essential in shaping the future of pilot training.
